Drug addiction is actually a chronic illness. This means that though the individual has undergone addiction treatment, relapse will always be a possibility. Relapse is even viewed by therapists as part of the learning process. Just because a person went back to taking drugs or drinking alcohol again does not mean that the rehab program is flawed. It's just that there are a lot of factors that can cause an individual to relapse. Hanging out with the same drug or being constantly exposed to drugs or alcohol can get a person to do substance abuse again. It takes a lot of determination for one to stay sober.

It means that the individual fell to temptation of what he was trying to quit . Programs work for people that really want to get well .

No. Relapse is common and considered a part of recovery.

No to both questions. It is very common for a recovering addict to relapse. That is not to say that the program wasn't effective, because it probably was. So many addicts of all kinds slip back due to many reasons. Just don't give up on yourself. Get support from family and friends and get back into rehab.......stat. Make it a goal to stay away from temptations or people that may tempt you. Work on your self-esteem as you REALLY work in rehab again. Don't fault yourself or think you are weak. Addiction is a very difficult thing to overcome but not impossible. Keep trying and never get up. I have faith in you even if you don't for yourself. Many times the treatment isn't long enough or you got out too soon. I suggest ongoing therapy after you go to rehab to help you cope and groups that can relate to you, but not enable you. People who can support you and know exactly what you are going through. Remember you aren't alone, unless you make it that way. I'll keep you in my prayers but your fight with addictions will always be a bit of a struggle. Surround yourself with positive people and people who understand and support you and won't put you down for your addiction. I'll keep you in my prayers......................as I have faith in you!
