Question: What do atheists do about the higher power step in addiction treatment?

Since one of the treatment steps for kicking an addiction requires some sort of a belief in a god or a higher power, what do atheists do to kick an addiction?

Who knows, maybe they would just see it as 'the universe' energy or something. maybe you could find a group and ask them

Atheists are usually welcome in AA without having to ascribe their recovery to a higher power but... This is the reason that Rational Recovery was founded. It's a non-profit AA model for persons not wanting to address the concept of God in their recovery. https:/ / rational.org/ index.php?id= 1

Skip it. Alternatively, use a treatment that isn't religious. There are many secular organizations for substance abuse treatment.
