Question: Husband in alcohol rehab?

After years of verbal, emotional and physical abuse my husband went to alcohol inpatient rehab today. Strangly enough I miss him. he is laying the blame for all his problems onto me. I am afraid after therapy he might leave me. I am not to blame on this. His parents are divorced and his mother medels into his life, his sister does too. will a good therapist see through lies from an alcoholic?

Professionals dealing with alcoholics see through all the BS because they've heard it a million times before, often from better liars too. Some of them have told that same BS as they are recovering alcoholics too. I certainly wish him well in his recovery process, although hopefully he stops blaming you and takes responsibility for his drinking.

It sounds like he is still in some stage of denial. when an alcoholic or addict lays the blame on someone else for all their problems, they are not actually taking the first step to recovery. they have to realize that number one, they have a problem as well as the fact that they have to take responsibility for their problem. as long as he finds people to blame for his drinking problem, he will continue to drink. chances are if he doesn't come to terms with the drinking being his responsibility... he will pick up the bottle not long after leaving the rehab. a therapist should be able to see what is going on. hopefully he will learn that he is ultimately responsible for his disease and that he is the only one that can choose not to drink. while he has underlying problems that cause him to want to drink... he must ultimately take responsibility for his behavior. (i hope this makes sense, i am exhausted but cannot sleep)

Probably will see through it. some therapists get deep into stuff like that. and a lot have been there and done that. thank god. i wish u luck. maybe they will realize u are not to blame for everything, and make him see that. the outpatient classes i took, the counselors usually try and break u down. thats when u start to tell the truth. but some people are stubborn enough not to and dont see what is really going on in their life, and how that effects others.

I think a good therapist can see through the excuses an alcoholic uses for his excuses. But more importantly, what do you want for your life? Even if he is sober, do you think he is a positive part of your life? I think you should get your own therapist to deal with so many years of abuse and help you navigate the future.
