After so many years of being an alcoholic, my dad finally decided to stop. But he doesn't know where to start. He is asking help from all of us, members of the family. We suggested to him to enter an alcohol treatment center. He agreed, but he wants us to visit him as often as possible. So, we decided to bring him to the place where we can easily drop by and say hello.

I admire your family for being united amidst problems in life. My dad encountered the same problem and was able to recover with the help of my mom and his doctors. You can contact their office using the links I have posted after this short response.

You do not get to have daily or weekly visits in rehab. Your dad needs to suck it up and get the help he needs. He will be there on a black out for the first 48 hours or so before he can make a phone call which are limited as well. Treatment is not about having family and friends drop by to say hello. There are family sessions to discuss his alcoholism and the effects it has had on his family. Rehab is not fun and it is necessary for alcoholics to learn a new way of life. Rehab is not going to change your father. He needs to continue his treatment after rehab at an out patient center for further alcohol counseling and he will need to make meetings regularly...the suggested amount at first is to make 90 meetings in 90 days to get plugged into the program and meet other recovering alcoholics. A sponser is strongly suggested. Which is another recovering alcoholic to guide him through the 12 steps of recovery. This person is someone in which he will learn to trust and be able to teach him how to truly live his life. Honesty,Open mindedness, Willingness are the three keys to recovery. Your dad can go to rehab for 28 days and dry up and quit drinking, but if he doesn't change some things he will be a dry drunk and that's worse than a drunk on most days. Call information for the AA Hotline and someone there will be able to recommend a facility. There is a halfway house in Lancaster Pa called The Mens Gatehouse where your father can go after treatment so he is in a home with other people who need a secure environment to have a better shot at staying sober. There is a huge recovery outlet in that area. Anyhow, call you local welfare office and they can assist you with facilities. There is a rehab called White Deer Run and they have locations throughout PA call information to get the #. Or take your dad to a Hospital and tell them he is an alcoholic and he wants to hurt himself, they will admit him to the nut ward until they can find a facility to send him to. I know it sounds harsh, but he wouldn't mind doing any of these things if it were for a drink so I suggest he go through any length to get sober and stay sober. Best of Luck!
