Question: Does anyone no if the drug methadone can be used as a strong painkiller?

Yes it is sometimes used instead of the vicodin or darvon because it has a different chemical composition. It lowers your tolerance again so that the pain pills can work in a lower dose. It is common for doctors to prescribe methadone to chronic pain patients with no intent of removing them from the opiate forever or entirely. It is a highly effective pain killer. When it is written this way it is commonly referred to as "off label use ". It is difficult to adjust to however, allow yourself time, and be prepared to just nod a lot. May you find relief.

It does have pain killing effects, but its prescription only. and usually only used as a substiture for heroin addicts trying to quit

DUH! It is an opiate. Of course it can be used 4 pain management and also to treat addiction.

Yes.i do it every now and then.just got out hospital today and my mate is on it every two hours for pain relief.
