Heroin Addiction: Methadone Facts

Question: Is it possible/or at all likely to get over heroin addiction?

I care about someone who is 20 years old and has been shooting heroin for like a couple of years (maybe since about 15), off and on... already been to rehab a few times, been locked up for stealing because of the addiction.. it's just bad. I haven't really been around it and just found out so its really hard to take this all in but WHAT HE TOLD ME is that he's going to check himself into rehab for 14 days and he wants to stay clean. But he just used yesterday (when I found out) but he said they wouldn't take him last time he tried to go because he had been clean for 14 days. Like I said I know nothing about it I was just kinda thrown in there for having feelings for the kid.. So he has a really strong support system & people that care about him unfortunately he's one of those people that could have a really great life and he said it himself he had everything going for him & screwed it all up, he's mad at himself, he blames others for it, and ect. So I feel like we were making progress but I just haven't been around it so closely before and my cousin said she has - - never- - seen someone be addicted to shooting heroin and fully quit... It's just a sad situation all around and I just wanna have hope that he can overcome it so what are the odds..???

The odds are not in his favor. only professional help can aide him

Yes. it is possible to get over it. methadone can help.

The is a chance, not alone though. Methadone will help, but he will be addicted to that also if he is not extremely careful. I believe that you cannot truly be over an addiction. I have been clean for awhile now, and even If I hear anything that reminds me of the fantastic drip that comes when snorting it, I die inside.
