Are you just needing pills for heroin detox or something else? If it is for herion detox, they usually put them on methodone. It is a long acting medicine that works alot like heroin without the uplifting properties. It prevents the side effects from occurring that usually cause people to rebound back into heroin. Hope this helps and good luck!

Well, then isn't it great that you do not have to ask for ANYTHING. The doctors will take care of him. All he has to be is willing and all YOU have to do is get him there.

If he's clean from heroin then he may need something to help him sleep. If he needs to wean himself off the drug as well then his dr MAY prescribe methadone ( a chemical substitute) or subutex which altho a substitute of sorts does not have the addictive properties of methadone. You may also find that a counsellor will be recommended as there's more to getting 'clean' than medication, it's also about sorting his life out. Good luck toyou both.

You don't ask for anything - the doctor suggests what is appropriate. End of the day, if you are not a doctor or otherwise medically trained, reading up something on wikipedia or getting someone on here to write a few lines on something they probably dont know anything about does not make you qualified to decide that is the treatment or drug therapy you want. My advice would be to go along, be open, stay calm and listen to the doctor and work with them rather then against them to get the most appropriate treatment. Ask questions and give as much information as you can about your brother and his history and whatnot and that will give you the best chance for the road ahead. All the best with it.

Tell the doctor what the problem is, he/ she will decide what is appropriate.

Doctors hate to be told what to do. Don't suggest anything, just get your brother there and the doctor will do the rest.

Sorry. you don't decide what is the appropriate detox for your brother, your doctor will arrange that.

His doctor should automatically know what to prescribe for him, your job is to make sure he gets to the surgery that is the hardest part. Good luck to you both

First of all CONGRATULATIONS on supporting your brother !!! and for him to recognise he HAS a problem. Most addicts are in self denial. He is obviously ready to detox. With your GPs and YOUR support he will have a much easier job of kicking the habit!!! Your GP will guide you as to what you or your brother need to go through with the detox. GOOD LUCK !! and WELL DONE.
