So I have chronic back pain from a serious football injury that should have left me paralyzed. Being the hard head that I am, I want to do better than where I'm at. Where I'm at is this...I have been on methadone for 2 years now, and was up to 50 mg per day plus 30mg of oxycodone for breakthrough pain. I decided I don't like the methadone, it works ok, but I am scared of all the horror stories of getting off it. I have been able to taper down to none. Zip. Zero methadone now for almost a week and have been strictly taking my oxycodone, but I have had to take almost double the oxy dose to keep from getting dope sick. My question is this, even though I've stopped methadone for a week now, I still feel no real pain relief or even minor euphoric effects from oxycodone. I take it simply to avoid getting sick (if I don't take it, I start feeling really ill). I would have thought by now my body would have flushed out the methadone and oxycodone would work once again and I could resume using it only when needed for pain rather than only to keep away the sickness. Does anyone know if your body ever is able to feel opiates again after using methadone? Its not that I'm chasing a high, its that I really did not like how I felt on methadone and would much rather prefer taking oxycodone for pain only as needed. I think my pain is under control after a lot of hard work I've put in on my body but I feel like even after a week off methadone oxycondone does next to NOTHING to help my pain, it simply stops me from feeling ill. Has anyone ever stopped methadone and returned to opiates and actually felt the effects? Please, please help, I hate being tied to methadone but I realize I will need something for pain and I hope it doesn't have to be md. I have far more familiar with oxycodone and know how to take it and also get off it. Methadone is a whole other story, I hate it. Please help. |
