Question: Can methadone lower a mans sperm count?

Additional Details my partner is on methadone at the moment but is no longer on heroin.due to the amount of heroin he was on he stated on a large amount of methadone which i have been told by his drug worker it is still going to be a while untill he is of the methadone as it cannot just be stopped. he is in the process of having his methadone reduced. i met my partner after his problem with heroin and have children from a previous marrige who he is great with but are looking in to the future on having a child together. reply to the first answer.. like it says above WAS on heroin.. its no wonder people relapse with people like you out there.. i have 2 children and my partner is a better father to them than there own father is. i feel sorry for people like you that cannot give people a chance to turn there lives around and make good of there lifes... and yes it can be done 90 % of drugs councillers today were drug users!!

Hopefully methadone does lower sperm count, you want to bring a child into this world when one of the parents is hooked on a class A drug, you're making bad choices. A child deserves to start with the best chances in life, not a chance to fall over onto his/ her parents discarded syringes when they fall off the waggon. + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + You are correct in that people should be given a second chance, but you asked the question sorry if you don’t like the answers. Your question indicates that you want to start a new life BEFORE your partner has finished the treatment, he may be fine when he comes off methadone but I still maintain that it’s folly to plan to bring a child into this world while one parent is still being treated for addiction to a very powerful drug that has ruined lives across the globe!

Hey thr no i dont think it will effect his sperm count as long as thats all he is taking and good for you for not judging people that have had a drug problem good luck xxxxxxxxxxx

I don't know for a fact it doesn't lower sperm count, but I do know someone who just got his wife pregnant and is a current methadone patient and has been for over a year.
