Question: Has anyone successfully come off methadone and remained clean so far?

I was an IV user of anything i could rig up to shoot in my veins, primarily Dilaudid, for about 7 years. I've been going to a Methadone clinic for 3 years as of March 19th, 2010. Since being there, I have not touched one drug, one drink, or one cigarette even. I know it will be slow going, probably a year or so, but I would really like to start coming down, (from 120mg), and try to quit. However, I'm SCARED TO DEATH that the moment I no longer have Methadone, I will quickly cave in to an urge to get high. Even though I know it has some effect on me, (because obviously I'm relying on it), I no longer feel any kind of effect after taking it each morning. Sometimes I even forget to take it and will realize it mid morning and then go take it. I'd like to know if anyone who had an extremely severe addiction, like mine, used Methadone to "get clean " and is now off of it and has remained drug free?? |
