Question: What could happen if a person took methadone & methamphetamine together?

My friend has just been prescribed methadone a few days ago! There's only one problem she does methamphetamine to. She don't know that i know though. The signs are just there. She cleans alot, she don't eat, she hides in the back room for like 10 mins & she expects me not to figure it out. Any ways ive been checking out the side effects of the drug methadone & see what you can & cant mix with it. I am in shock what you cant mix with it. Zanex, depression meds & somas & sleeping meds your not allowed to take with it. Lets say if she took her methadone in the morning & did her methamphetamine in the afternoon would that be ok?I am so scared shes going to die from these pills & I cant tell her nothing about the meth stuff cause she will just deny that's shes on the methamphetamine! Im going to warn her about taking the zanex & somas with the methadone though!Shes been hiding her meth addiction now for at least a year that's another reason of why i said she will just deny it! I am so worried about her thats why im asking this question. I do not agree with what shes doingmk. |

Yes Michelle, you are wrong, it is prescribed for heroin addicts. I don't think much will happen to her. I've known plenty of people to do both. The most likely thing to happen to her will be an overdose of heroin if she ever gets her hands on more. She can even overdose on the speed, maybe go into a coma and lose an arm or something if she sleeps on it. Ask her if she is really on it and then tell her you are concerned about what all the drugs are doing to her. The more drugs she does the more likely she is to overdose. Find out why she thinks it necessary to do so many drugs and then work on that. |

According to a drug information reference, this is the "interaction ": Amphetamines may enhance the analgesic effect of Analgesics (Opioid). It was a class C interaction (A being no interaction and D being bad) enhancing opioid effects can lead to respiratory depression aka she could stop breathing but the risk is low. Ultimately she is doing this to herself and you are not responsible if anything should happen. If you decide to confront her, you run the risk of losing her as a friend you seem like a good friend so I hope not. |

If the doctor prescribed methadone, did he not do drug blood tests? Perhaps you could pose that question to the doctor 'Is it standard procedure to administer drug tests for presence of other drugs before prescribing methadone?' |

I may be wrong, but i think methadone is used to treat people with methamphetamine addiction. therefore, if it was going to be a dangerous mix, doctors wouldn't prescribe methadone as the chances of the methamphetamine user still dabbling would be too high, and it would be too risky. also, i have known a few junkies in my time, and they always take any drug going whatever it is. i know to the average person with any sense, you wouldn't mix any drugs without checking it out, but people who abuse drugs don't really care about the consequences, and the amount of times i've seen people take one drug then another and another, and they still carry on. i would say, in your friends case, that she's using the methadone to come down of the amphetamine. and a lot of people who use speed or methamphetamine, will always use something to help with the come down side effects. there is nothing more devious and a liar than a junkie, so all you can do is keep an eye on her. if she does fall asleep keep an eye on her breathing, as the methadone affects the respiration and too much can send a person to sleep for good. if she won't tell you the truth, just tell her you're not stupid and you're only concerned about her. |
