The person in question is in her 50's, and has been on at least 3 types of pain meds and muscle relaxers for over 10 years. She lives in a drug induced fog. I wonder if, like in my aunt's case, there was something psychological even before the onset of disease? She was abused for 3 years, and started with drugs in high school to ease that pain before her back problems set in. She is on high doses of oxycontin, percoset, and flexeril now, for common back pain. And these are just the ones we know about. Yes, I agree family intervention cannot make the situation worse. I cringe when I think of her words " The meds allow me to spend time with my granddaughters. Without them, I would want to die." Pain management and a pain free existence are different things.

I have a 7 year old daughter that I was sharing joint custody of with my ex husband up until 12 3of this year. on that date, my daughter came home stating her father had physically hit her on the back of the head where she had 3 staples in to close up a cut she received after being pushed by a cousin at her uncle's house on her dad's side of the family b c he got angry at her for not sticking with a lie he had made up about her being sick so that I would come pick her up from his house instead of him having to take her to school. I currently have temporary full custody of my daughter due to an order of protection being passed. I also called CPS and filed a report. My daughter has also stated to me that her dad takes alot of pills and sleeps ALL day on the weekends he has her which requires her to have to get her own meals and entertain herself unattended while he sleeps. she even told me he's allowed a neighbor girl same age as my daughter to come inside the house and play while he sleeps. he text messages calls me at all hours of the night midnight,2a,4a,etc on the days he has our daughter and then my daughter will tell me he sleeps all day over the past 6 months, his short term memory is completely gone. he forgets dates, times,events and constantly forgets things told to him about our daughter's doctor's appts and school events,etc. has recently been requesting other people watch our daughter for him or will ask people to pick her up from school b c he claims he is too sick or needs to take a soma and can't drive to get her did this 3 times in 2 weeks prior to me taking her from his care I know that he is on xanax,ativan,seroquel and the soma b c i've seen the pill bottles in his home and warned him about them being within reach of my daughter and he's admitted to taking the soma on a constant basismy questions are is the sleeping all day being up all night a sign of addiction? is not having hardly any short term memory a sign of addiction?and if he is abusing these drugs in excess will it show up on a drug test random urine and hair follicle testing I'm requesting both from the judge ?thanks

Prescription drug abuse?
Hi im a 23 yr old male. 130lbs 5ft 9. Over the past few years I have been taking different pills prescribed to me by my doctor. Sleeping pills such as halcion, dalmane, stilnoct, zimovane, noctamid. The reason for the list is beacuse they never seemed to work and I have extreme insomnia. I also have been prescribed 1mg xanax for 1 month and have been on cipramil for past year following a 2 year course of effexor. Its alot of drugs I KNOW. The only pill I take now is cipramil 30mg once a day. Over the past few weeks I have beeen taking some of the named drugs, unprescribed to give me a sort of " high" . and mixing with alcohol. I would take 15mg of zimovane with a bottle of wine or 15mg zopiclone and 3 mg of xanax and a few spirits just to experience ease for a few hours. So far I have not had any bad effects or next day hangovers and it just urges me to want to repeat. Because I am on cipramil, I do suffer with anxiety and panic attacks and When I take these other pills I get a release. Is it possible to ween off these cocktails and how bad is it for my health even though I have noticed nothing bad. Also if you want to label me as a drug addict then fine but constructive advice is much appreciated.Firstl I need to thank everyone for their replies. Much appreictaed. Secondly i need to point out that I dont hate my life. I have a difficult life but I dont hate it. May be a bit pissed off with it. Like for example. I worked my ass off in college working on a degree. got it and now unemployed with nothing to do. I have hobbies but a few hours a week just doesn't fulfill any needs. I do feel bad when now when taking stuff and have to be honest now that this is day 2 of taking nothing. No withdrawal effects. The cipramil keeps me balanced in some ways but just does not give me that extra bit of something. Solutions are better than criticisms here. No point in lecturing me as I know the risks but unfortunately I dont put the risks high up on my priority list. I would like to feel I dont need any pills but dunno how it can be approched. Also I have been with psychiatrists and psychologists and have given them chances but I do not respond. I have undergone EMDR and CBT and even though I
