I know I should never have started taking pain pills but I did and I know it will kill me which is why I'm reaching out for help. I tried getting off cold turkey, but I get withdrawal symptoms within 24 hours if not sooner. I don't want to go into a program or see a doctor, even though it may be my best chance. I don't want to tell anyone who loves me because I don't want to disappoint anyone. My life is so miserable that I crave that high just to get through a day in my life :( How can I better my life so I don't need a high, and how can I get through the withdrawal symptoms? I'm only 20 years old, and I might take 60- 100mg of Hydrocodone a day for the past couple years, after I get clean I'll go to a doctor to have my liver checked, but I want to get clean first. Please no negative answers, I need positive reinforcment and help. Any answers that may help me will be extremely appreciated |

By not letting your family in on what is going on with you, you are in better shape to not succeed in anything you try because you don't have their support and even their watchful eye in your recovery. You have tried to keep this secret to yourself although most of time it isn't as secret as you think, there are little tell tale signs you have left along the way. The only thing keeping a secret is good at is keeping you where you want to be. The secret itself is all consuming and makes it powerful stuff and just giving it up takes away a lot of power which helps in making it out the other side. My first step would to be open up about your problem. It will be much easier to get over it that way and most family members are happy to help another get through something like this. |

I've been down this road before.. You'll disappoint the people who love you even more by not telling them. People make mistakes, that's life. And seeking treatment isnt just your best option..It sounds like your only option. There's nothing to be ashamed of, we all stumble sometimes. Just do what you have to do to get your life together. As for making your life better..exercise, take up sports, a hobby. Anything that keeps you busy! Best of luck to ya! |

I'd try cutting down over the course of a week or two and then cut down to every other day, then stop. you need to have the expectation that you will be uncomfortable. Give yourself a big pat on the back and stay focused on how much better life will be when you get off the meds. I give you a lot of credit. It would really relp you if you had a friend that could be there to support you. I'd also try to remain very active during the first couple days rather than laying around thinking about ho much I missed the meds. Good Luck Dude! |
